Our Services: Historic Restoration Our association and membership in different historical associations and continued attendance at architectural seminars addressing historical issues has given us resources not commonly found in the paint contracting market. Access to this information is usually restricted to a limited market and is not easy for ordinary people to find. Many people get trapped in trying to reproduce historic paint finishes with what we call the quandry of historicity. The quandry is this: Do we want it to look like it did 100 to 200 years ago? Or do we want it to look like it has been deteriorating for 100 to 200 years? There are no simple answers for this complex issue. As one of our services we will guide you through the complexities of these choices. The Olde New England horse hair plaster look is unique patina that is becoming a dying craft. There are many newer designer plaster finishes that are all the rage in decorative circles. We reproduce the old look of plaster, both with and without the period whitewash finishes. We use special chemicals to create aged patinas to a variety of metals. The final product is a genuine historic patina without the use of paint-always a contrived appearance. Make brand new wood look like weathered barnboard, or a new or repaired piece of furniture appear as if it were a family heirloom. Plaster Repair can be tricky. We will make it look as though your plaster was never compromised. What shade would best invoke the atmosphere you want to create in your home? How would the builder have painted it years ago? After years of education and research we have gained an extensive knowledge of modern and historic colors and finishes. We can consult with you on the best finish and products to bring back or maintain the historic flavour of your home and furnishings. | ||
